The Photinia ‘Red Robin’, also known as Christmas Berry ‘Red Robin’ or simply Red Tip Photinia, is a vibrant, evergreen standard tree prized for its brilliant red new growth and glossy foliage. Popular for its bold colour, fast growth, and neat form, it’s a striking choice for formal planting, screening, or as a colourful statement feature in both modern and traditional gardens.
At Tree Heritage Nursery, we supply Photinia 'Red Robin' standard trees in a range of sizes: 10–12 cm, 14–16 cm, and 18–20 cm.
Growing Conditions
Red Robin thrives in moist but well-drained soil and is tolerant of a variety of types including chalk, loam, or sandy soils. It prefers a sunny to partially shaded spot, where it develops the richest colour. It is hardy, pollution-tolerant, and suitable for both urban and rural gardens.
Where to Position It
Ideal for use as a specimen tree, feature plant, or in a formal row, Photinia Red Robin also performs well in containers and along driveways or patios. Its clipped, lollipop shape offers structure and colour in all seasons, and it makes a fantastic screening tree with minimal maintenance.
Foliage, Flowers & Fruit
The standout feature of Red Robin is its striking red new growth, which matures to a deep, glossy green, providing year-round interest. In spring, clusters of small white flowers appear, sometimes followed by small red berries in autumn. While the berries are not always produced, they add an extra ornamental touch when they appear.
