The Evergreen Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) is a stunning architectural tree, admired for its large, glossy leaves and show-stopping, fragrant flowers. Native to the southeastern United States, this evergreen beauty brings a touch of grandeur to any garden or landscape design.
At Tree Heritage Nursery, we offer Magnolia grandiflora standard trees in three sizes: 10–12 cm, 14–16 cm, and 18–20 cm.
Growing Conditions
Evergreen Magnolia thrives in fertile, moist but well-drained soil, particularly loamy or sandy types. It prefers a sunny, sheltered position, ideally with protection from cold, drying winds. While young trees benefit from support, once established, they are tough, resilient, and tolerant of a range of conditions, including coastal environments.
Where to Position It
Ideal as a specimen tree, the Evergreen Magnolia is perfect for formal gardens, courtyards, or urban spaces where year-round interest is desired. It can be grown as a free-standing tree or trained against a warm wall to enhance flowering. Its dense foliage also makes it useful for screening and privacy.
Foliage, Flowers & Fruit
Magnolia grandiflora boasts large, leathery, dark green leaves with attractive, velvety copper undersides, providing visual interest even in winter. From mid to late summer, it produces spectacular creamy white, bowl-shaped flowers, up to 25cm wide, with a rich citrus fragrance. These are followed by cone-like fruit clusters containing bright red seeds, which are a favourite with birds and add ornamental appeal into autumn.
