Also known as the European Maple, Harlequin Maple, or simply Acer platanoides, the Norway Maple is a robust, deciduous tree admired for its broad canopy, classic maple leaf shape, and striking autumn colour. Offering reliable shade, strong structure, and year-round presence, it’s a top choice for parks, avenues, and large gardens.
At Tree Heritage Nursery, we offer Norway Maple standard trees in a selection of sizes: 10–12 cm, 14–16 cm, and 18–20 cm.
Growing Conditions
Norway Maple is highly adaptable and easy to grow in a wide range of moist but well-drained soils, including clay, chalk, loam, and sandy types. It performs best in full sun to partial shade and is well-suited to urban environments, thanks to its pollution tolerance and wind resistance.
Where to Position It
A perfect tree for creating canopy shade, defining large open spaces, or planting as a street or avenue tree. Norway Maple’s strong shape and seasonal drama make it ideal for informal gardens, driveways, and landscape-scale planting where height and structure are needed.
Foliage, Flowers & Fruit
In spring, this tree produces small yellow-green flowers in upright clusters, which are especially attractive to early pollinators. These are followed by classic paired winged seeds (samaras), typical of maples. The palmate green leaves, similar in shape to the Sycamore, turn spectacular shades of yellow, orange, or deep red in autumn, making it a highlight of the seasonal garden.

Planting & Aftercare
Every order includes our planting and establishment notes. The single biggest factor in success is water: new plants need generous, regular watering through their first two growing seasons. Follow the guide and your plants will establish strongly — and we’re on the end of the phone if you need us.
Why Tree Heritage
We’re a working nursery in Hertfordshire, not a reseller. Every plant is selected, grown on and quality-checked by our own team before it leaves the nursery.
