Product Information
The Italian Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), also known as Mediterranean Cypress or Tuscan Cypress, is an iconic architectural tree prized for its slender, upright form and deep evergreen foliage. This classic conifer instantly brings a sense of elegance and formality to garden spaces, making it a favourite in Mediterranean-style gardens, grand avenues, and contemporary planting schemes.

At Tree Heritage Nursery, we supply Italian Cypress Standard Trees in the following sizes: 10–12 cm, 14–16 cm, and 18–20 cm.

Growing Conditions

The Italian Cypress thrives in well-drained soil, including chalk, loam, or sandy soil, and prefers full sun for best colour and growth. It is drought-tolerant once established, and best suited to sheltered or southern locations in the UK. It dislikes waterlogged or heavy clay soils, but is otherwise adaptable and resilient.

Where to Position It

Perfect for formal entrances, pathway borders, symmetrical planting, or as a statement feature in gravel or courtyard gardens, the Italian Cypress adds vertical drama and timeless structure. Use them in pairs to frame gateways or garden vistas, or plant in rows for a classic Italianate look.

Form, Foliage & Appeal

Italian Cypress trees grow in a naturally narrow, columnar shape, maintaining their slim profile with little pruning. Their rich green, scale-like foliage remains vibrant year-round and forms a dense, upright silhouette that provides instant height and contrast in the landscape.

Size & Growth

  • Ultimate Height: 10–15 metres (can be maintained smaller with pruning)
  • Ultimate Spread: 2.5–4 metres
  • Time to Ultimate Size: 20–50 years

Delivery — By Our Own Team

Standard and pleached trees are too tall for courier pallets, so our own team delivers them:

  • £55 — within 18.6 miles (30 km) of our Hertford nursery
  • £105 — 18.6–46.6 miles (30–75 km)
  • £250 — 46.6–205 miles (75–330 km)
  • £400 — 205–329 miles (330–530 km)

Oversized trees are delivered within a 4-week window and we’ll agree the date with you. Scotland or beyond 329 miles: please contact us for a quote before ordering. Select your distance band at checkout — we confirm by postcode before dispatch.

Plant Now or Reserve for Autumn

We deliver all year round — our container-grown stock can be planted in any season (summer planting just needs committed watering). Prefer to plant in autumn, when establishment is easiest? Order now and add a note at checkout — we’ll reserve your plants and deliver when you’re ready.

Planting & Aftercare

Every order includes our planting and establishment notes. The single biggest factor in success is water: new plants need generous, regular watering through their first two growing seasons. Follow the guide and your plants will establish strongly — and we’re on the end of the phone if you need us.

Why Tree Heritage

We’re a working nursery in Hertfordshire, not a reseller. Every plant is selected, grown on and quality-checked by our own team before it leaves the nursery.

Delivery charges are calculated at checkout based on the method, the specifics of your order, and your location.

To care for your Italian Cypress, water regularly during the first year, particularly in dry spells, to help the roots establish. Once settled, it is drought-tolerant and low-maintenance. Apply a layer of mulch in spring to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds, keeping the mulch away from the base of the trunk. Minimal pruning is required, but light trimming can be done in late spring or summer to maintain a tidy column. Avoid over-pruning, as the tree does not regenerate well from old wood. With the right care and a sunny spot, Italian Cypress will provide years of bold structure and Mediterranean charm.
