Known for its exquisitely peeling copper bark and vibrant seasonal foliage, the Paperbark Maple (Acer griseum) in multi-stem form is a standout ornamental tree that brings subtle elegance and four-season interest to any garden. Its layered stems and warm-toned bark offer a glowing winter silhouette, while the soft green leaves and fiery autumn tones add beauty throughout the growing season.
At Tree Heritage Nursery, our Paperbark Maple Multi-Stem Trees are selected for their well-balanced, architectural form - ideal for feature planting in a range of garden styles.
Growing Conditions
The Paperbark Maple thrives in moist but well-drained soils, including loamy, sandy, or clay-based types, and prefers a sunny to lightly shaded position. It is hardy, slow-growing, and suitable for smaller gardens, withstanding a variety of conditions while maintaining a refined appearance.
Where to Position It
Perfect as a specimen tree for lawns, gravel gardens, or near seating areas, the multi-stem Paperbark Maple is best placed where its bark can be enjoyed year-round. It's also a favourite for winter gardens, woodland borders, or architectural planting schemes, where it provides texture, warmth, and subtle movement.
Bark, Foliage & Flowers
The star attraction is its cinnamon-orange peeling bark, which curls and flakes naturally to reveal smooth, rich-toned layers beneath, most striking in winter. The trifoliate leaves emerge soft green in spring, turning a rich scarlet, orange, and red in autumn. Though the yellow flowers in the spring are small and inconspicuous, they’re followed by winged samaras (maple keys), adding subtle charm to the tree’s seasonal display.

Planting & Aftercare
Every order includes our planting and establishment notes. The single biggest factor in success is water: new plants need generous, regular watering through their first two growing seasons. Follow the guide and your plants will establish strongly — and we’re on the end of the phone if you need us.
Why Tree Heritage
We’re a working nursery in Hertfordshire, not a reseller. Every plant is selected, grown on and quality-checked by our own team before it leaves the nursery.
