Also known as Laurel 'Genolia' or Upright Cherry Laurel, Prunus laurocerasus 'Genolia' is a modern, columnar evergreen perfect for narrow spaces and formal hedging. With its slim, upright growth, glossy green leaves, and excellent year-round coverage, it provides a smart, space-saving alternative to traditional laurel hedging.
Bred for tidy growth and low maintenance, Genolia is ideal for those wanting a neat, uniform hedge with a smaller footprint, without sacrificing privacy or evergreen presence.
Growing Conditions
Swiss Laurel is hardy and thrives in well-drained soils, including clay, loam, and chalk, and tolerates a wide range of pH levels. It grows well in full sun to partial shade, and once established, is drought-tolerant and easy to care for. Its vertical habit also makes it suitable for narrow beds or tight boundary lines.
Where to Plant It
Ideal for urban gardens, tight borders, or along fences and driveways, Genolia’s naturally upright form makes it perfect where space is limited, but privacy is still needed. It’s also a great choice for modern designs and formal planting schemes where a sleek look is desired.
Foliage, Flowers & Form
The plant features narrow, glossy green leaves arranged along strongly upright stems. In spring, it produces small white flower clusters, followed by red to black berries later in the year. Its narrow profile and dense foliage provide excellent visual screening in all seasons, with minimal need for shaping.
