Known as Burkwood Osmanthus or simply Sweet Olive, Osmanthus burkwoodii is a compact, evergreen shrub or small tree prized for its fragrant spring flowers, dense glossy foliage, and slow-growing, refined habit. In multi-stem form, it takes on a sculptural elegance that works beautifully as a specimen tree or a structured element in modern and traditional gardens alike.
At Tree Heritage Nursery, we supply Sweet Olive Multi-Stem Trees in the following sizes: 100–150 cm, 150–200 cm, and 200–250 cm.
Growing Conditions
The Sweet Olive tree thrives in well-drained soils, including clay, loam, and sandy ground. It prefers a sunny to partially shaded position and is hardy across much of the UK. Its compact habit and tolerance of light pruning make it a great choice for small gardens or refined spaces.
Where to Position It
Ideal as a feature in borders, near entrances, or in urban courtyard gardens, the multi-stem form adds architectural flair while keeping a manageable footprint. Position near paths or seating areas to enjoy its wonderfully fragrant blooms in spring.
Foliage & Flowers
This elegant evergreen displays small, dark green, leathery leaves arranged neatly along upright stems. In mid to late spring, it bursts into bloom with clusters of tiny white flowers, which release a sweet, jasmine-like fragrance. Though subtle in appearance, the flowers are powerful in scent and a highlight of the spring garden.

Plant Now or Reserve for Autumn
We deliver all year round — our container-grown stock can be planted in any season (summer planting just needs committed watering). Prefer to plant in autumn, when establishment is easiest? Order now and add a note at checkout — we’ll reserve your plants and deliver when you’re ready.
Planting & Aftercare
Every order includes our planting and establishment notes. The single biggest factor in success is water: new plants need generous, regular watering through their first two growing seasons. Follow the guide and your plants will establish strongly — and we’re on the end of the phone if you need us.
Why Tree Heritage
We’re a working nursery in Hertfordshire, not a reseller. Every plant is selected, grown on and quality-checked by our own team before it leaves the nursery.
