Also known as Betula utilis var. jacquemontii, White-Barked Birch, or Jacquemontii Birch, the Himalayan Birch is a graceful, deciduous tree prized for its brilliant white bark, elegant form, and delicate foliage. It brings striking contrast to garden designs and provides strong year-round visual interest, especially in winter, when its bark shines against darker backdrops.
At Tree Heritage Nursery, we offer Himalayan Birch standard trees in the following sizes: 10–12 cm, 14–16 cm, and 18–20 cm.
Growing Conditions
Himalayan Birch thrives in moist, well-drained soils, preferring loamy or sandy ground but adapting well to clay if not waterlogged. It grows best in full sun to light dappled shade and appreciates a cooler root zone, making it ideal for planting in open lawns, woodland-style gardens, or near water features.
Where to Position It
This tree is a striking specimen tree, ideal for modern gardens, multi-stem displays, or group plantings for dramatic effect. It’s also perfect for urban gardens, mixed borders, or architectural planting schemes, where its clean bark and soft foliage offer year-round structure.
Bark, Foliage, Flowers & Fruit
The standout feature of the Himalayan Birch is its snowy-white bark, which peels naturally to reveal fresh layers beneath. Its light green, ovate leaves turn golden yellow in autumn, providing seasonal interest. In spring, the tree produces slender yellow-brown catkins (both male and female), a subtle but elegant detail that enhances its ornamental value.
